Việt Nam and Japan have committed to strengthening their defence collaboration, focusing on key strategic areas such as military training, cybersecurity, defence industry advancements, United Nations peacekeeping missions, and post-war recovery efforts. This agreement was reached during a meeting held in Hà Nội between Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence General Phan Văn Giang and General Uchikura Hiroaki, Chief of Staff of Japan’s Self-Defence Forces.

General Giang highlighted Việt Nam’s dedication to bolstering consultation and dialogue frameworks, enhancing cooperation across military branches, and fostering partnerships in defence technology, military medicine, and cybersecurity. He underscored that defence relations are a vital component of the broader Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations. Furthermore, the Vietnamese minister recognized Japan’s contributions to personnel training, defence industry growth, technology transfer, and post-war recovery projects, urging for more scholarship and training opportunities for Vietnamese defence personnel in science, engineering, and technology disciplines.

The defence collaboration between the two countries has significantly expanded, supported by regular policy dialogues and military consultations. General Uchikura reiterated Japan’s dedication to enhancing defence ties with Việt Nam, advocating for increased cooperation in high-level exchanges, military education, cybersecurity, and healthcare services within the armed forces.
