Saudia, the national airline of Saudi Arabia, is set to begin direct flights between Riyadh and Tokyo starting in November 2026. This new service will feature three weekly flights departing from Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, marking a collaborative effort between the airline, the Air Connectivity Program, and the Saudi Tourism Authority.
The introduction of this route is poised to enhance tourism, trade, and business relations between Saudi Arabia and Japan. It also aims to improve the Kingdom’s international accessibility. This initiative aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, the National Aviation Strategy, and the National Tourism Strategy, all of which are focused on transforming Saudi Arabia into a global hub for tourism and logistics.
In addition to the new flight path, the Saudi Tourism Authority is actively collaborating with partners in Japan to develop travel packages that will entice more Japanese tourists to explore Saudi Arabia. This strategic move is anticipated to boost the number of visitors from Japan to the Kingdom.
Saudia’s latest endeavor also lays the groundwork for facilitating travel in anticipation of the AFC Asian Cup 2027, an event that Saudi Arabia is preparing to host. This direct connection between Riyadh and Tokyo will ease travel logistics for sports fans and participants attending the tournament.
Currently, Saudia operates flights to over 100 destinations around the globe and is in the process of expanding its fleet with the acquisition of 112 new aircraft. This expansion is part of the airline’s broader strategy to enhance its service offerings and reach.
